Ishant Sharma, actress Matondkar participate in Delhi energy conservation walkathon
October 24th, 2010 - 5:06 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Oct.24 (ANI): Indian cricketer Ishant Sharma and Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar joined over 3000 people in a walkathon to spread awareness about energy conservation and health improvement here on Sunday.
‘Petrotech Walkathon 2010′ is an initiative by Petrotech and one of the leading Indian daily newspapers - The Times of India - to awaken the masses and to aggregate them to stand up and make a difference for a better future.
Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Murli Deora flagged off the walkathon at 7.00 a.m. from the renowned Dhyan Chand National Stadium.
Deora said that at a time of fuel prices spike, the walkathon will enable people to understand the importance of fuel conservation.
” ‘Petrotech Walkathon’ is organised to spread awareness throughout the country to reduce the consumption of oil, energy, fuel as their prices have greatly increased. We want to give out this message here and I would like to welcome all those people who are participating in this event,” said Deora.
The walkathon provided a platform for people from all walks of life to come together and take a pledge to make efforts towards a better lifestyle, health and environment.
Several renowned sportspersons from hockey, badminton, athletics, and golf took part in the walkathon.
Matondkar said she was happy to be a part of the event and said walking is the best medicine for good health.
“There is a very good thought behind this initiative. I believe that if everyone collectively thinks about good health and saving fuel that it will be of great benefit to the country. I, believe that Walk is very good for health and if through this we can save energy, then why not!” said Matondkar. (ANI)
