Is Oprah Winfrey leaving broadcast TV for her own network?November 8th, 2008 - 2:27 pm ICT by ANI
Washington, Nov 8 (ANI): American talk show queen Oprah Winfrey could move on from broadcast TV and syndication to her own network in the fall of 2011.
Discovery chief David Zaslav believes that Winfrey may wind up her show in 2011.
The current expectation is that after fall 2011 her show will go off of syndication, and she will come to OWN, Fox News quoted Zaslav as telling analysts.
OWN stands for Oprah Winfrey Network that the cable channel Winfreys production company, Harpo, is creating in conjunction with Discovery.
We are talking right now about what that presence would be and what programming she would be involved in directly, but this is her chapter two, and building the OWN brand online and on-air is something she and I are working on together. It is a core mission for her, Zaslav said.
A source close to the talk show host further revealed Winfreys retirement plan after her contract with King World ends in 2011.
Yes, but she won”t retire. She”ll go right to her own network, to OWN, the source said.
Harpo’’s representatives were unavailable for comment. (ANI)
