The three-day conference, titled “Women’s Roles in Society: Issues of Mutual Concern”, is being organised by the Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation (CDR) in collaboration with Women for Peace, according to a spokesperson of the conference Saturday.
“The conference will bring 45 women participants from all regions of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Pakistani Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan,” the spokesperson said.
Among the participants from Pakistani Kashmir are former director general, curriculum research and text book development and Press for Peace chief Tanveer Lateef, Women Welfare Organisation founder-president Syeda Najma Shakur, Quaid-i-Azam University professor Shaheen Akhter, and Gilgit-Baltistan parliamentarian Amina Bibi.
Among the issues to be taken up are “Women’s Roles in Peace-building”, “Women’s Roles in Policy-making”, and “Socio-economic and Legal Issues in Women’s Empowerment”.
The exchanges of information and ideas from the dialogue will be shared on Sep 30 in Srinagar, where a wider cross-section of women and men will join the conference participants and offer feedback and a greater engagement with the issues raised, the spokesperson added.
