Etawah, Feb 2 (ANI): A team of four international experts have arrived here to investigate into the cause of death of several Indian alligators in the Chambal River.

According to official figures, at least 100 alligators have been found dead in the past six weeks in the Chambal River in Etawah’s Chakar Nagar Tehsil.

We can’t comment on the reason why they are dying, but we are setting up the whole system which certainly will allow us to find out more, said Paolo, an expert from the US.

A meeting between the experts and authorities was held to diagnose the cause of the alligator deaths. The experts also visited the site where the carcasses have been recovered and collected water and other samples.

Brain Sozi, another foreign expert from South Africa said, We certainly have to look at the whole area.

The deaths came under scrutiny after a Non Government Organisation (NGO), the Society for Conservation of Nature, informed the Forest Department about two dead alligators near the river in December 2007. (ANI)
