Inspired by Gandhi, Australian citizen organizes peace march in Guwahati
March 2nd, 2011 - 1:11 pm ICT by ANIGuwahati, March.2 (ANI): Inspired by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, Australian citizen Gaivin Brown took out a peace procession to spread the message of non-violence in Guwahati.
The rally was first organized three years ago and has been followed every year since then.
Brown has been following Gandhi’s philosophy of peace, non-violence and love since the age of six. He has been practicing his teachings for years.
“When I was very young, about six, I would hear on a little radio on little farm about a man in India who was working to uplift the poor people in India and he went straight to my heart and I just fell in love with him. And I by falling in love with him, I found truth, and love- ‘Satya’ (truth), ‘Ahimsa’ (non-violence), ‘Priya’ (Love), Shanti (truth),” said Brown.
The march was carried out by students of the Parijat Academy, a school for underprivileged children and volunteers of the NGO ‘Just be Friendly’ (JBF), who were seen holding placards and banners carrying the messages of Gandhi’s teachings on Tuesday.
” We have been coming for the rally for the past three years. We actually want to implement the philosophies of Gandhi who loved his children. For many years, he worked for India to get its independence. We give training to the underprivileged children and provide education to them and vocational training to the women to uplift them in society,” Said Bhaskar Kausik, a JBF volunteer.
Students and volunteers along with Brown were seen chanting peace messages given by Gandhi at the rally. (ANI)
