November 24th, 2010 - 7:39 pm ICT by IANSJammu, Nov 24 (IANS) A junior commissioned officer was Wednesday injured in a clash between Indian troops and terrorists seeking to infiltrate into the Indian territory at the Line of Control in Mendhar area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Indian Army said it was successful in foiling a major infiltration attempt from across the LoC. Army sources said the infiltration bid was made from Krishnaghati sector in Mendhar area.
According to sources, the troops Wednesday detected movement of terrorists along the LoC that divides Jammu and Kashmir between India and Pakistan. They challenged the intruders who opened fire injuring a junior commissioned officer.
The Indian troops retaliated. The exchange of firing lasted a while after which the intruders retreated into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the sources said.
The vigil along the LoC has been heightened.
