Indo-Russian govt. panel to discuss developing fifth generation fighter aircraft

New Delhi, Sep 28 (ANI): The eighth meeting of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-MTC) will meet on Monday to discuss a broad spectrum of issues including supply of defence systems, equipment upgrade, product and life cycle support for defence equipment of Russian origin

The meeting is likely to take up renewed price negotiations for 1.5 billion dollar Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier, plans for developing a joint fifth generation fighter aircraft and medium transport aircraft, and T-90 tanks technology transfer, sources said.

The meeting will also take issues of licensed and joint production, joint development and production of systems and platforms, interaction between the two armed forces and military technical cooperation.

Russian Defence Minister Mr Anatoly Serdyukov is arriving here this evening, leading a high-powered military delegation to take part in the meeting.

Serdyukov will co-chair the meeting with the Defence Minister AK Antony.

Serdyukov will arrive at the Palam technical area by a special flight at 18.10 hours on Sunday.

After laying wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyothi at India Gate on Monday morning, he would be presented a Guard of Honour at South Block by the Indian armed forces.

After a half-hour-long meeting with Antony at his office, the Russian Defence Minister will co-chair the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission for Military and Technical Commission, an unique arrangement that New Delhi has only with Moscow, along with the former at DRDO Bhawan Auditorium.

During his three-day stay in India, he would be visiting the BrahMos Aerospace Complex in the capital besides the Para Brigade of the Army in Agra.

IRIGC-MTC was established in 2000 with a view to strengthen our bilateral defence cooperation. (ANI)
