Indian Navy’s outgoing chief claims Navy improved country’s image
August 31st, 2009 - 3:05 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Aug 31 (ANI): Outgoing Navy Chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta on Monday said that one of the most important tasks of navy is to work towards improving the image of the country.
Mehta while addressing here said that eastern and western navy fleet have recently participated in several overseas exercises, which in turn helps in improving the image of the country.
“Recently, our eastern fleet ships in entire South China sea and upwards till Japan has returned after participating in naval exercises with fleets of several countries. On the other hand, our western fleet ship has recently returned after deployment of two-and-half months and has returned just 15 days back. They performed several exercise, held talks and met people with other naval fleets of the countries. It is a very important work of navy to help in improving the image of the country,” said Mehta.

Vice Admiral Verma has taken over as the charge of Navy Chief.
A specialist in electronic warfare, Vice Admiral Verma was commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1970 and since then he held various Staff, Operational and Command appointments.
He is a graduate of the Royal Naval Staff College, Greenwich, U.K.
He also graduated from the U.S. Naval War College. (ANI)
