Indian Army kicks off 15-day Trans-Himalayan motorbike expedition
September 6th, 2010 - 2:37 pm ICT by ANILeh (Jammu and Kashmir), Sep 6 (ANI): The Indian Army has flagged off its 15-day Trans-Himalayan motorbike expedition from here with the aim of developing leadership qualities and fostering a spirit of adventure among the bikers of the 1st Ladakh Scouts battalion.
The expedition that began from Karu in Leh will travel through three states covering a distance of almost 2,100 kilometers.
“This expedition is being led by Indian Army’s 1st Ladakh scouts battalion. In the Indian Army’s history of 65 years, such a motorbike expedition is being conducted for the first time, and that too led by the Ladakh scouts,” said Colonel Gurpal Singh, Commanding Officer, Ist Ladakh Scouts battalion.
“During the expedition, the riders would travel through three States. Twenty-two motorcycle riders of the 1st Ladakh Scouts battalion would be riding on 10 motorcycles. They would be traveling almost 2,100 kilometers,” he added.
This adventurous activity would include challenging mountainous terrains of the Indian subcontinent, including 10 high-altitude passes like Rohtang (13,360 feet), Baralacha-La (16,040 feet), Nakee-La (15,547 feet), Lachung- La (16,616 feet) and Tanglang-La (17,582 feet).
Lt. Gen. K. M. Balsara, the General Officer Commanding, Trishul Division flagged off the Trans-Himalayan expedition that will continue till September 18. (ANI)
