India needs to develop infrastructure for football: Bhutia
June 14th, 2010 - 8:58 pm ICT by ANIKolkata, June 14 (ANI): Indian football team captain Bhaichung Bhutia on Monday said there is a need to develop infrastructure for football in the country has to be developed to see India playing in the FIFA World Cup.
Interacting with media Bhutia said: “Always, whenever World Cup comes, the biggest question is when India will play. But I think, we only ask questions and we only talk on tables, and we just debate.”
“We have to really work on the field, which is to have infrastructure developed, have youth development programme set up,” he added.
Bhutia believes that there should be for an immediate ban of stadium horns during the FIFA World Cup matches in South Africa, saying he feels the constant sound of high-pitched horns during the matches creates a disturbing atmosphere for the footballers.
“I think so far it’s been little disappointing. The biggest thing is that the sound horn has to be banned stadium horns, which is one big disappointment. It’s bothering everybody, it does not interest. The sound is really more irritating than anything else,” said Bhutia.
Over the controversy surrounding the FIFA World Cup 2010 ball, Jabulani, Bhutia said that the ball has been creating problems and the players are missing targets because of the ball.
The new ball has the tendency to shift in direction and bounce erratically, which is worrying the players.
Many players across different FIFA teams have complained about the ball, with criticism ranging from the ball’s heaviness to allegations that it favours strikers and not goalkeepers. (ANI)
