India looking forward of Richard Holbrooke’’s visitFebruary 12th, 2009 - 2:09 pm ICT by ANI
New Delhi, Feb 12 (ANI): External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said that the November attack on Mumbai would be discussed with Richard Holbrooke, U.S. Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, when he visits New Delhi shortly.
“He is coming to India. We”ll discuss. He is concerned his mandate is to deal with Pakistan and Afghanistan and not India,” said Mukherjee.
Mukherjee said that New Delhi was waiting for the Pakistan Government’’s official information on the investigations into the Mumbai attacks.
“I am to get the report from them. The problem is that unless we have official information from Pakistan authorities in the authoritative source, it is difficult for any official spokesperson to comment on it. Let us wait for what they have done and let us wait for the report from Pakistan,” he said.
Earlier, US Ambassador David C Mulford said that President Barack Obama’’s special envoy Holbrooke would soon be visiting New Delhi.
Holbrooke visited Pakistan’’s tribal region, where security forces face an intensifying Islamist insurgency as per Pakistan officials. As per media reports, no discussions were held in Pakistan regarding the November 26 Mumbai attack.
Holbrooke arrived in Pakistan late on Monday at the beginning of his first visit since his appointment as envoy to a region moving to centre stage of U.S. foreign policy.
Reports indicate that the Pakistan Government on Wednesday has registered a case against Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone terrorist captured alive during the Mumbai terror attack.
Media reports said that the charges were filed against Kasab and 13 other people on the basis of a Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) probe into the Mumbai attacks.
Islamabad ordered the FIA probe after India alleged that the Mumbai attacks were plotted in Pakistan.
Currently, Kasab is in the custody of Mumbai police.
Wednesday’’s development came three days after Pakistani Intelligence agencies claimed that they had arrested three men for their alleged links to Kasab.
The Pakistan Interior Ministry’’s report into the Mumbai carnage will speculate that the attacks were not planned in Pakistan or India, but in a European country. The reports said that cases would be filed against five Pakistanis, including Kasab, for planning the Mumbai attacks. (ANI)
