India, Kazakhstan sign seven strategic deals

Manmohan Singh Astana, Apr 16 (ANI): India and Kazakhstan inked seven treaties on Saturday in Astana, including an accord in civil nuclear field and in the oil sector to consolidate their strategic partnership.

At wide-ranging talks between Prime Minster Dr. Manmohan Singh and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev, the two sides also decided to work for pushing the bilateral trade, which was currently as low as 300 million dollars.

The two sides also signed an inter-governmental pact for Cooperation in Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy that envisages a legal framework for supply of fuel.

They also discussed a host of issues, covering bilateral matters and international issues, like developments in Libya and other North African countries, and Afghanistan.

“President, it is my strong belief that a strong and comprehensive partnership between India and Kazakhstan will contribute to peace, stability and development in our region and world beyond. I look forward to working with you towards this end,” Dr. Singh said. (ANI)
