New Delhi, Dec.5 (ANI): On the day when Arabinda Rajkhowa, self-styled Chairman of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), and Raju Baruah, the outfit’s deputy commander-in-chief, surrendered to Indian authorities near the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya, the Indian government has revealed that it is in touch with the neighboring countries to nab the elusive ‘commander-in-chief’ of ULFA, Paresh Baruah.

Baruah is the head of the military wing of ULFA, which is a banned organisation.

According to sources, top ULFA commander Paresh Baruah, who has been hiding in Bangladesh for many years had moved to China earlier this year and now had been located in Myanmar’s Kachin region bordering China’s Yunan province.

Talking tough, India has also asked its neighbours to behave responsibly on the issue , addressing the reporters in New Delhi Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said “Well Paresh Barua is wanted in India for crime against Indian state, against Indian people and we continue to seek his apprehension and we are in touch with neighboring countries about these matters. And, we expect all neighbours to behave responsibly on this issue.”

According to sources, elusive ‘commander-in-chief of ULFA Paresh Baruah is hiding in Myanmar’s Kachin area, bordering China, and is under the full grip of anti-India forces like Pakistan’s ISI.

Sources said Chinese official agencies like the army were helping Baruah, not only on Chinese territory but also in Myanmar.

In fact Raju Baruah, Paresh’s deputy, who has reportedly surrendered, has told security agencies about the ULFA cadre receiving arms training at camps in China.

ULFA’s ‘foreign secretary’ Sashadhar Choudhury and ‘finance secretary’ Chitrabon Hazarika, who had surrendered earlier, also told his interrogators earlier that the outfit was getting its arms from Chinese manufacturers.

Indian External Affairs Minister SM Krishna will be visiting Myanmar on the December 9 and is expected to take up the issue with the Junta leadership.

According to Foreign Secretary Rao, India is also in constant touch with Bangladesh. (ANI)
