India continuously monitoring situation in quake-hit Japan
March 17th, 2011 - 5:49 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Mar 17 (ANI): India is continuously monitoring the situation in Japan, in the aftermath of the powerful earthquake and tsunami that struck the country on March 11.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) informed that the Embassy of India in Tokyo is in regular touch with the Indian community and the Japanese authorities.
All Indian nationals are reported to be safe and have been advised to take the precautions suggested by the Japanese authorities from time to time, the MEA said in a statement.
Air India has introduced daily flights with enhanced seat capacity to Japan, to assist those who wish to travel back. For the time being, non-essential travel to Japan may also be avoided.
The Ambassador of India to Japan, Alok Prasad, handed over relief material comprising 25,000 blankets to Japanese State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Yutaka Banno yesterday, on behalf of the government and people of India.
Banno expressed sincere appreciation for India’s assistance and for the solidarity expressed by the people of India. (ANI)
