India, China ties have acquired global significance: Manmohan Singh

New Delhi, Apr 12 (ANI): The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, today said ties between India and China have acquired global significance.
In a statement released ahead of his departure on a five-day visit to China and Kazakhstan, Dr Singh said: “I look forward to my meeting with President Hu Jintao. The India-China relationship is a key relationship, which has now acquired global significance.
He said that in his bilateral meeting with the Presidents of Russia, Brazil and South Africa, he would have substantive discussions on wide range of issues.
Welcoming South Africa’s participation for the first time at the BRIC Summit, Dr. Singh said: “BRIC can make substantial contribution in sustaining the process of global economic and financial recovery.
Dr. Singh added that traditional sources of economic growth are still under stress and even as fresh uncertainty have emerged as a result of recent developments in different parts of the world.
He said that if BRIC countries can coordinate their positions on issues like sustainable development, balance growth, energy and food security and reform of international financial institutions.
He said today, that all BRIC countries are members of G-20 and UN Security Council and experience of working with each other in this forums has been positive and holds promise.
On his travel to Kazakhstan, Dr. Singh said that he will built upon the successful visit of President Nazarbayev to India in 2009 and expand the frontier of bilateral cooperation with that country.
“There is immense potential for moving forward in political and security cooperation besides trade and investment. He said other areas of cooperation are energy, pharmaceutical, agriculture, information technology and capacity building,” he added.
He said: “My visit signals India’s abiding interest in Central Asia that is rooted in the history and culture of this region.” (ANI)
