India and Turkmenistan agree to cooperate against global terror

New Delhi, May 26 (ANI): Declaring terrorism, transnational crime and illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs as the main threats to security and sustainable development of countries of the world, India and Turkmenistan on Tuesday agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation on tackling global terrorism.
A joint statement issued after the meeting between Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said both countries agreed to cooperate in dealing with global terrorism.
“The leaders of both countries declared that terrorism, transnational crime and illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs were among the main threats to security and sustainable development of countries of the world,” the statement said.
“The two leaders reiterated their strong condemnation of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai (in November 2008) and elsewhere in India. The two sides agreed to cooperate with each other in dealing with the scourge of global terrorism,” it added.
Both countries underlined the importance of combating terrorism at the international level.
“The two leaders emphasized the need for intensifying bilateral and global cooperation in combating international terrorism,” statement further said.
Both countries called for early conclusion of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism within the UN framework. (ANI)
