Indefinite curfew relaxed for nine hours in Imphal
August 12th, 2009 - 2:57 pm ICT by ANIImphal, Aug 12 (ANI): An indefinite curfew, which was imposed in Imphal following protests over the killing of a youth in a fake encounter, was relaxed for nine hours on Wednesday.
According to official sources, curfew was relaxed from 5:00 a.m. to enable the people to buy essential items.
On Tuesday, a partial relaxation was withdrawn after agitators tried to defy restrictions.
Earlier, the eight-day-old curfew was relaxed over the weekend.
The Apunba Lup (A L) had called for a 48-hour general strike to protest agaisnt the killing of 27-year-old Chungkham Sanjit in a fake encounter.Manipur Police maintains that Sanjit was a militant and was killed in an encounter by police commandos on July 23 in the Imphal market complex. (ANI)
