Kolkata, June 17(ANI): Normal life in Kolkata was adversely affected after heavy rain led to water logging on the roads and disrupted traffic today.

Low lying areas like Golf Green, Golf Gardens and some areas in Alipore, Behala, Park Circus, Dum Dum and Baguihati were water logged.

Drains overflowed and flooded the roads.

Commuters had a tough time as they had to make their way through the gushing water.

The residents complained that poor drainage system was responsible for the mess. They blamed the civic authorities for adopting a callous attitude towards their problems.

Shibshankar Chatterjee, a student said that graduation level exams are on and the situation on the roads is messy. It is very difficult for us reach our destinations. South City has been established here and other constructions are in full swing due to which water logging problems have aggravated.

People blamed unplanned constructions in the areas, which had blocked the passage of rainwater.

Sahagal, a resident of Golf Gardens said that we are not getting water due to heavy rain. Everything has almost come to a standstill. We can’t go to colleges, schools and offices.

At many places, rainwater entered houses and complexes but the worst hit were the slum dwellers as they were compelled to spend a sleepless night. (ANI)
