Los Angeles/Chennai, Feb 23 (ANI): Noted music composer A. R. Rahman who created a sensation on Sunday by winning two Oscars for Best Original Song and Original Score for the movie Slumdog Millionaire, said he was both excited and terrified.
Rahmans song Jai Ho, received accolades from across the world.
Rahman is only the third Indian after Costume designer Bhanu Athaiya and Director Satyajit Ray to win an Oscar gold.
Athaiya was honored with an Oscar for the movie Gandhi in 1982 while Ray received a lifetime achievement award in 1992.
I was excited and terrified, the last time I felt like that was during my marriage, Rahman said after collecting two Oscars.
He also thanked his mother Kareema Begum for joining him at the Kodak Theatre here.
The music director sang his two songs, OSaya and Jai Ho, before leaving the stage.
Rahman, who has written scores for over 130 films since 1992, said music and films could bring people together despite boundaries of race, nationality and religion.
Rahman got recognition in the West when he wrote the score for Andrew Lloyd Webbers musical Bombay Dreams.
In Chennai, His sister Reihana could not stop thanking God and the millions of Indians for her brothers win at the Oscars.
It is Gods blessing and all the accolades to him. I am elated. Rahman has won, thanks to the whole nations prayers, she said.
Reihana is also planning to go on a pilgrimage to thank God.
She is also expecting Hollywood to offer Rahman more work after this honour. (ANI)
