Jammu, Nov 12 (IANS) Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Thursday said the Kashmir issue can only be resolved if “people of all religions, regions and ethnicity are included” in the effort.
“It is an all inclusive movement and does not belong to a particular region or religion,” said Mirwaiz, who is currently touring the major towns of the mountainous Doda and Kishtwar districts, about 185 km northeast of Jammu.
“My mission is to take everyone along, from all regions, sub-regions, ethnicities and religions,” said the 62-year-old separatist leader.
Hurriyat Conference has hailed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P. Chidambaram’s call for talks on the issue, which has led to three wars between India and Pakistan.
“Our common interest lies in converging viewpoints of all sections and communities and regions. No solution can be worked out in isolation,” he said, and pleaded with the Hindu population in Bhaderwah in Jammu sub-division that “they should not view Hurriyat Conference as a communal force”.
