Geelani was put under house arrest to prevent him from addressing an anti- election rally at Shopian in South Kashmir this afternoon.
Geelani was placed under house arrest as a precautionary measure on Friday morning and has been told that he would not be allowed to leave his house till further orders.
Aiyaz Akbar, a spokesman of the party, said a large number of security personnel have been deployed around Geelanis Hyderpora residence.
Akbar said the anti-poll campaign would continue and other Hurriyat leaders would continue to address at rallies as per schedule.
The Hurriyat has already started an anti-poll campaign in the Kashmir Valley, saying that the election or the selection of candidates will not help resolve the Kashmir issue.
Geelani has appealed to the people to stay away from the polls. (ANI)
