Hurriyat demands release of GeelaniJune 18th, 2009 - 10:26 pm ICT by ANI
Srinagar, June 18 (ANI): Hundreds of activists of the Hurriyat Conference, staged a protest in Srinagar on Thursday demanding an independent probe in Shopian rape incident and release of party chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani and several other leaders.
“We want an independent inquiry commission to probe the Sophian incident in which the bar association has to be included,” said Shabir Ahmad, an activist of Hurriyat Conference.
“We want that Hurriyat Conference activists including Syed Ali Shah Geelani should be released immediately and this protest will continue till they are not released,” said Ahmad.
The state administration had placed Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani and other separatist leaders under house arrest earlier this month for encouraging near daily street protests, after the alleged rape and murder of two women in Shopian town on May 29. (ANI)
