Srinagar, Oct.24 (ANI): The Hurriyat Conference on Sunday decided not to meet the three-member visiting team of interlocutors appointed by the Central Government to take various shades of opinion in Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking during a news conference, Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, today termed the setting up of this committee as “a step of lingering the Kashmir issue,” but said Hurriyat Conference was not against the dialogue process.

But, Mirwaiz said, there was no need of such a committee (of interlocuters) as the people of Kashmir have already expressed what they want during the past five months.

“As far as the whole committee business is concerned, the Hurriyat Conference has taken a very conscious decision that we will not be meeting committee or interlocutors. Our position is very clear that it is the time for India to act on the suggestions which have been put forward by the Hurriyat,” said Mirwaiz.

Hurriyat conference today also launched a signature campaign throughout the Jammu and Kashmir, which after November 5 will be submitted to the visiting United States President Barack Obama through the US Embassy in New Delhi.

He urged Obama to prevail upon India to take steps for a peaceful and permanent solution of the Kashmir.

“Mr. President it is our ardent hope that during your visit you will use your influence to urge and prevail upon India to take steps for a peaceful and permanent solution of the Kashmir dispute in according with the wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” said Mirwaiz.

“We have for a long time been advocating a meaningful and result oriented dialogue between India, Pakistan and people of Jammu and Kashmir. To facilitate this process we seek an appointment of special repertoire of international stature. The facilitation of special repertoire is indispensable to help build trust among stake holders and reinstate their confidence in the process of dialogue,” he added.

Eminent journalist Dileep Padgaonkar heads the three-member panel of interlocutors, the other two being educationist Dr. Radha Kumar and Information Commissioner M M Ansari. (ANI)
