Huge cache of ammunition recovered in Poonch

Poonch (J-K) June 1 (ANI): Personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles, a para military force deployed in Kashmir, unearthed a huge cache of arms including explosives, detonators and other ammunition from a militant hideout in Poonch on Sunday.

Acting on a tip off-of a possible hideout, troops of the paramilitary 40 Rashtriya Rifles launched a surveillance and extensive search operation resulting in the busting of the hideout, just a kilometre north of Mandi forest area in Poonch.

The haul comprised of 12-kilograms of explosive, six hand- grenades, one Chinese pistol, four Under Barrel Grenade Launchers, 65 under barrel grenades, 278 detonators besides huge cache of ammunition.

However, none of the militants could be nabbed, as they had fled before the security personnel and police teams could reach the spot.Lieutenant Colonel, Biplav Nath, Public Relation Officer Defence, Jammu region said that with this seizure a major terrorist design has been thwarted.

“By the virtue of this recovery we have thwarted terrorist designs and these war-like stores were definitely a tool for the destruction,” he added. (ANI)
