April 3rd, 2011 - 9:12 pm ICT by IANSSrinagar, April 3 (IANS) A district commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) outfit was killed in a gunfight with security forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district Sunday, police said.
“Troops of the army and the police in Shopian district had laid a siege around Tharna Keller village following specific information about the presence of armed militants there,” police said, in a press statement released here.
“After the hiding militants ignored the warnings of the security forces to surrender, an encounter ensued in the village, at the end of which a district commander of the HM identified as Tariq Hussian alias Abu Zaid son of Ghulam Haider resident of Dara Chapra (Doda) was killed,” it said.
An AK-56 rifle, three magazines, and 88 live rounds of ammunition were recovered from the possession of the slain militant, it added.
The security forces did not suffer any casualty in the gunfight, police said.
