Petaling Jaya (Malaysia), Oct.14 (ANI): Four Hindu Rights Action Force (HINDRAF) leaders have been issued notices to turn up at the Dang Wangi district police station in Kuala Lumpur today in connection with the Hari Raya open house incident.
Their lawyer N. Surendran said HINDRAF national information coordinator S. Jayathas; A. Nageswary, the wife of HINDRAF national chairman P.Waythamoorthy; coordinator K. Selvam; and national event coordinator R. Kannan have been asked to report at the police station at 2.30 p.m.
According to The Star, the police stated that they wanted to record statements from the four on what had happened at the Prime Ministers Raya open house.
He said the investigations would be carried out for two alleged offences.
The first would be under Section 27(5) of the Police Act for illegal assembly, and the second for alleged trespassing under the Penal Code, Surendran said.
Failure to comply with the notice would only result in warrants of arrest being issued against them, he said.
On Oct 1, about 160 HINDRAF supporters turned up at the Hari Raya open house hosted by Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Muslim Cabinet ministers.
They presented Abdullah with a teddy bear and a Hari Raya card with a message asking him to release the five HINDRAF leaders detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA): M. Manoharan, P. Uthaya
