Shimla, Sep. 22 (ANI): Heavy rainfall and overcast conditions for the past four months have damaged the cabbage crop, resulting in a shortage of the vegetable.
Cabbage is primarily cultivated in Theog, Fagu and Matiyana areas of Shimla District.
The heavy monsoon this year has damaged over fifty percent of the cabbage crop.
“Cabbage production is 25 percent. Now, you can estimate how much we are going to earn if we do not get 25 percent of our income. Our investment is more than that,” said Om Prakash, a farmer of Fagu Village.
“Due to heavy rains the crop production is 50 percent less and pea seeds have not been sown as yet. Due to the floods in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi, the crop production has been poor and the demand has soared up. So, in Shimla, there is a shortage and this will increase further,” added N.D. Sharma, a vegetable businessman.
Sharma claimed that the heavy rains have resulted in crops being affected by mites.
Himachal Pradesh has received three percent more rain than normal during the current monsoon season. (ANI)
