December 7th, 2008 - 5:15 pm ICT by ANILondon, December 7 (ANI): Heath Ledger has been honoured posthumously with the best actor award for his phenomenal performance as the villainous Joker in The Dark Knight in his native Australia.
The 28-year-old, who had died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs in January 2008, had been given a standing ovation after being granted the Australian Film Institute’’s international award.
The AFI paid tribute to the late Brokeback Mountain actor in Melbourne dubbing him as the untamed spirit as his sister Kate, accompanied by her parents, accepted the award on his behalf.
“It has been without a doubt the most difficult year, losing such a loved family member,” BBC quoted her as saying.
“We are so proud of him and humbly accept this award on behalf of his beautiful daughter [Matilda], who we will cherish forever,” she added. (ANI)
