Mumbai, Mar 25 (ANI): Asserting that he has been wrongly framed, top tax evader Hasan Ali Khan on Friday said that there is a threat to his life from Kolkata-based businessman Kashinath Tapuriah and his partner RP Goenka.

“The 8 billion dollars belong to Tapuriah and his associate…they have framed me,” Ali told reporters outside a Mumbai sessions court, where he was remanded to 14 days of judicial custody till April 8.

On Thursday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Tapuriah in connection with money-laundering and tax evasion charges. Tapuriah, who was arrested after three days of questioning, will be in the custody of the probe agency till March 30.

Earlier, Ali was produced before a magistrate late last night after his three-day custody ended on Thursday.

Hasan Ali Khan, 53, was arrested by ED sleuths for stashing away huge amounts of black money in banks abroad. He is also facing a Rs 70,000-crore tax demand notice from the income tax department.

The Income Tax Tribunal had on March 4 issued a showcause notice to Hasan Ali. (ANI)
