Narendra Modi Ahmedabad, Apr 14 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi criticized Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Thursday for not casting his vote during the assembly polls in Assam.

“On this day when it is the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar, it pains me to learn that Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, like every citizen of this country, has been given the constitution and the right to vote, but he did not go to his constituency in Assam and did not cast his vote in state assembly polls,” Modi told reporters here on the occasion of Dr BR Ambedkar’s birth anniversary.

“This news causes pain among the citizens of the country. And, especially, it is painful, on the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar, the architect of Indian Constitution,” he added.

Dr Singh is a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam and both he and his wife Gursharan Kaur are registered voters in the Dispur assembly constituency.

However, the Prime Minister is presently in China for the ongoing BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) Summit.

Assam held two-phased elections in which voting for 62 constituencies were cast on April 4, while the remaining 64 constituencies went to polls on April 11.

The election results will be declared on May 13. (ANI)
