June 30th, 2011 - 12:23 am ICT by IANSSrinagar, June 29 (IANS) A Kashmiri guerrilla entered a mosque and shot himself dead after firing upon a paramilitary bunker in north Kashmir Wednesday, police said.
“A pistol-bearing militant fired upon a bunker of CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) 179 Battalion in Arampora locality of Sopore,” a police statement issued here said.
CRPF troopers then chased the militant, who entered a mosque.
“When the mosque was cordoned off, the militant shot himself. A local entered the mosque and confirmed that one dead body along with a pistol was lying inside the mosque,” it added.
The guerrilla has been identified as Tamir Ahmad Khuroo alias Junaid, a resident of Sopore.
For the last three months, the slain guerrilla was working in the clinic of a local doctor where two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) guerrillas were killed by the security forces in March this year, police said.
