Guerrilla commander killed in north Kashmir
March 12th, 2011 - 9:38 pm ICT by IANSSrinagar, March 12 (IANS) A ‘divisional commander’ of militant group Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) was killed in a gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir Saturday, police said.
A senior police officer said: “On specific information about the presence of militants, the police, 22 Rashtriya Rifles and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off Muslim Peer area in Sopore town.
“When the area was being cordoned off, militants opened fire triggering a gunfight in which one militant identified as Chhota Kalimullah alias Shamsher alias Talwar Bhai, the divisional commander of HuM outfit, was killed,” he said.
“One AK 47 rifle, six magazines and one pistol magazine were recovered from the encounter (gun battle) site. The area is still being searched,” he added.
