Green India Mission to enhance forest cover: Jairam Ramesh
November 30th, 2009 - 5:15 pm ICT by ANI ( 2 comments )New Delhi, Nov 30 (ANI): The Union Government on Monday clarified that the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) includes a Mission on ‘Green India,’ that would enhance ecosystem services and focus on increasing forest cover.
In a written reply to lawmakers N.K. Singh and Jayanthi Natarajan, Union Minister of State for Forest and Environment, Jairam Ramesh made it clear that government has not announced any separate plan for Himalayan states for conserving forests.
Answering another question raised by lawmakers Alka Kshatriya and
Shobhana Bhartia, Ramesh informed the Rajya Sabha, that both India and China have jointly agreed to conduct research on the impact of global warming on glaciers in the Himalayan and Tibetan regions.
“Both the countries have signed an Agreement on cooperation on addressing climate change that covers, inter-alia, cooperation in observation and monitoring of climate change and undertaking mutually cooperative activities and programmes as appropriate,” he said.
Ramesh added that India has not taken up the matter of melting of Himalayan Glaciers with other affected neighbouring countries. (ANI)

We have a mandate to raise infrastructure funds, where the requirement is in excess of 200 million Euros.
The Green India Mission, led by Jairam Ramesh, would be one such project that should benefit from the Platform, and we know that there are many such projects that would be of interest.
For the Government, it would be necessary for a letter to be signed by the Minister of Finance, on behalf of the Government, in agreement to raise the funds.
I welcome some formal approach from Government, in order to have a preliminary discussion on a way forward with this.
Thank you

It is a very pleasing thing to note that the MOEF has taken up a mission to conserve and develop the existing green cover in the country, but more emphasis should also be given towards solving bio fuel crisis through developing bio fuel source on vacant and barren community lands in the country.
