New Delhi, Aug.30 (ANI): The Government said on Monday that it would bring a fresh Bill on the Enemy Property in the next Parliament session.
Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram today said that the official amendments were introduced after extensive discussions. But since the members wanted more time to study the provisions, the government has decided that it would bring a new Bill.
The Bill was to replace an Ordinance that was promulgated in July this year.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and Senior BJP leader L.K. Advani, however, cautioned the Government against bringing another ordinance by incorporating further amendments.
Both the leaders said that if it was done then they would oppose the Bill.
Responding to their statement, Mr. Chidambaram said that they should not harbour any suspicion.
Earlier, the Lok Sabha witnessed uproarious scenes and heated exchanges over the proposed amendment Bill and the House was adjourned till 2 P.M.
The BJP said that it would allow the Bill only in its original form and not along with the proposed amendments.
Swaraj wanted the Bill to be referred to the Standing Committee of the Parliament.
While the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Samajwadi Party alleged that the Bill would take away the rights of the Muslims who stayed back in India. (ANI)
