Govt. reviewed security, other challengesin Kerala, Assam, Puducherry and Mumbai: Chidambaram

New Delhi, Nov.30 (ANI): Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday said that during the month of November, he had visited Kerala, Assam, Puducherry and Mumbai to review security and other internal administrative matters.
He said that he visited Kochi on November 3 to inaugurate and attend the International Community Policing Conference. He also visited the Lakshadweep islands on November 3 - 4, where he participated in a number of official engagements, including the flagging off M.V. Lakshadweep Sea and an interceptor boat.
He said that he reviewed the security situation in Assam on November 12 with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and senior officers of the Assam Police, Army and CPMFs in Guwahati. Commenting on the situation in the North East, he said that Assam and a 20 kilometer-wide belt in Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya bordering Assam have been declared ‘Disturbed Areas’ for a further period of one year with effect from November 3, 2010 under section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958.
He also revealed that 101 families of Bru migrants have been repatriated from Tripura to Mizoram on November 3, taking the total number of those repatriated to 1,132 families.
He reviewed the progress on several matters concerning the administration of the Union Territory of Puducherry in Karaikkal on November 20.
He said that he visited Mumbai on November 26, 2010, where he participated in a number of events to mark the second anniversary of the 26/11 attack on Mumbai. (ANI)
