Governor M.K. Narayanan says economic situation of West Bengal unsatisfactory
March 9th, 2011 - 1:32 pm ICT by ANISiliguri, Mar 9 (ANI): Ahead of scheduled polls in West Bengal, State Governor M.K. Narayanan has said that the current economic situation in the region was not satisfactory and needed to be improved at the earliest.
According to recent media reports, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) led Left Front government has been unable to pay salaries on time and even been pulled by the Union Finance Ministry for unsustainable fiscal position of the state.
Criticizing the measures taken by the CPM-led government, Narayanan minced no words in expressing his displeasure at the financial condition of West Bengal.
“The financial situation is certainly not very comfortable. It needs to improve,” said Narayanan.
Meanwhile, expressing concern at the ongoing spiral of separatist and Maoist violence in the region, Narayanan hoped the elections would be held peacefully.
“The only message I have, is that the election should be peaceful and that there should be no violence,” said Narayanan.
The state will have elections in six phases. The first phase of voting will take place on April 18, second phase on April 23, third phase on April 27, fourth phase on May 3, fifth phase on May 7 and sixth phase on May 10. (ANI)
