Goa police set up SIT to probe Margao blast
October 18th, 2009 - 10:45 pm ICT by ANIPanaji, Oct 18 (ANI): Goa police on Sunday set up a special investigating team (SIT) to probe into Margao blast in which two people were killed on Friday.
A Superintendent of police headed team will carry out the probe.
The police said that two men identified as Malgondi Patil and Yogesh Naik, who were carrying the bagful of country made explosives, were riding a scooter when the blast occurred.
Both were rushed to Goa Medical College hospital, where they succumbed to injuries.
As per preliminary information, police said that the people carrying the explosives were from Maharashtra.
“It appears to be that they are from outside the state. They appear to be from Maharashtra,” said Allen De Sa, Superintendent of Police of Goa.
The blast took place near the Grace Church in Margao, where a religious event was being held during which effigies of a mythical demon, Narkasur, were burnt to celebrate the victory of good over evil.
Police have reportedly linked the blast to a Hindu organisation named Sanatan Sanstha of Goa. (ANI)
