- Ludhiana, Oct.18 (ANI): German and Indian artistes enthralled people at a function held Ludhiana city to commemorate 10 years of the Punjab Cultural Promotion Council (PCPC).
The objective was to explore folkloric traditions and enhance an interaction between Indian and German artistes.
The artistes that included young students from different schools and colleges from Germany have come to India for the cultural exchange programme.
Female German dancers fascinated much attention of the audience with their traditional and belly dancing.
“Germany is another world and India is another world and that’s why we are doing it,” said Lena, a German artiste.
The German dancers also played the traditional German bagpipes and said that India was similar to Germany with diverse cultures in different states.
“It is very different because inside Germany it is like India. There are different states and each state has its own culture similar to India. I heard Punjabi music for the first time in Bulgaria and I liked it very much and that is why we are here for the Punjabi folk music,” said Paulat, a bagpiper.
Gatka (Sikhs traditional style of stick fighting) and Bhangra dance performances by the Indian artistes also enthralled the audience.
“It is a good feeling to see young artistes from Germany come here and showcase their culture. Our Punjabi children also showcased their ‘Gatka’. Children performed very well. It is good to see Punjabi folk culture being showcased at an international level,” said Dolly Guleria, a Punjabi singer.
Every year PCPC organizes a cultural event in which artistes from different countries visit the state to develop and exchange their cultural stance. (ANI)
