June 30 (ANI): Troubled football star Paul Gascoigne is planning to remarry his ex-wife Sheryl, once overcomes his battle with booze.

Sheryl is supporting the 41-year-old former England football star as he faces his demons at a Priory clinic.

And his friends say that the girl he once battered in drunken rages has now given him a whole new reason to live.

One source revealed: Paul is feeling better than he has for months and its all down to Sheryl. They are falling in love all over again and he couldnt be happier. Sheryl was really upset when she saw just how ill Paul was.

She realised how much she cared about him and has managed to forgive him for everything that happened in the past, The Daily Star quoted a source, as saying.

Sheryl has offered Paul a place to stay once he leaves the clinic and they will take things from there. Paul says that, once he has been sober for 12 months, he will ask Sheryl to marry him, the source added.

He needs to be close to people who care about him and this is the best news his friends and family have had in a long time.

The couple divorced in 1998 after two years of marriage. Gazza admitted attacking Sheryl in a series of booze-fuelled bust-ups.

He head butted her at the posh Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, leaving her bruised with a damaged hand.

When the break-up finally came, Sheryl, now 43, banned him from seeing their son Regan.

Sheryl has also been travelling from her Hertfordshire home to visit him at the clinic in South-West London. (ANI)
