Gary Glitter plans move to Ireland to avoid tax on PS5million fortune
September 8th, 2008 - 6:05 pm ICT by ANI - Send to a friend:London, Sept 8 (ANI): English rock and pop singer Gary Glitter is planning on moving to Ireland in order to avoid his five-million pounds fortune from being taxed.
For him, moving to Ireland would mean that he would not have to pay income tax, as according to the Irish law artists are exempted from it.
With there being no official ban on foreign travel for Glitter, he can easily cross the Irish Sea and live a free life as there is no court-ordered supervision also.
As per Glitters lawyer, Giovanni Di Stefano, the 64-year-old pop singer is making the move to avoid media scrutiny and to save his money.
If he goes to the South of Ireland he will pay no tax whatsoever because under their system artists and sports people like jockeys are exempt, the Daily Star quoted Di Stefano as saying.
His earnings would be classed under what they call historical artistic earnings.
He cant be taxed as these earnings are what are known as residuals he has not worked in the last seven years, he added.
Restrictions put on him mean he only has to tell police if he plans to travel outside Britain for over three days or spend more than seven days away from home.
If he does not inform the police, he could be jailed for up to five years.
Amazingly his lawyer claimed that after some well-publicised child abuse cases involving priests in Ireland, Glitter would not be a major cause for concern.
He will probably be left alone over there, Di Stefano added. (ANI)
