New Delhi, July 28 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday hit out at the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government on inflation and rotting stocks of foodgrains in the country.
Gadkari blamed prevailing corruption and wrong policies of the Central Government for price rise and inflation.
“This price rise and inflation, it is only because of wrong policies and wrong decisions and corrupt administration. Corrupt administration and I feel this is the reason behind every problem,” said Gadkari, while talking to the media at the launch of the party’s journal ‘Sandesh’.
In a slide show presentation on the issue of rotting food grains and reactions of various Central Ministers, Gadkari said the Congress-led Government preferred to put public money for the benefit of the private players and multinational companies.
Taking a jibe at Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, Gadkari addressed him as the ‘Prince’, and asked has he (the Prince) not witnessed all these.
“The poor man does not get food to eat and on the other hand lakhs of tonnes of food grains are getting rotten. Is this not bad administration? Is this not the responsibility of the Government? Can’t our Prime Minister see this?, asked Gadkari.
“Can’t UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi see this? Prince (Rahul Gandhi) goes to the house of Kalavati and eats bread there and the TV channels run after him saying he went to houses of poor people, can’t he see the food grains getting rotten? he further asked.
Food inflation declined for the second consecutive week, ending on June 26.
The economists, however, believe that food inflation would continue to remain in double digits for sometime now, as the impact of fuel price increase would be seen going ahead.
Earlier on June 25, a ministerial panel headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, had lifted the pricing controls on petroleum following which the price of petrol went up by Rs 3.50 a litre.
The Government hiked the prices of diesel by Rs.2 a litre, kerosene by Rs.3 a litre and cooking gas by Rs.35 per cylinder. (ANI)
