New Delhi, May 27 (ANI): Air Chief Marshal Fali Homi Major on Wednesday said that permanent commission to women could be granted in other branches of the Indian Air Force, and their future in the armed forces is extremely bright.
At present women are allowed to serve in ground branches, flying and engineering wing. For permanent commission of women in the IAF branches like administration, accounts and legal will be opened for them.
“Future of women is extremely bright and very recently government has approved to grant women permanent commission in certain branches. This is just a beginning. There could be a possibility of increasing permanent commission to other branches also,” Air Chief Marshal told reporters here.
“Let us have a beginning and as we roll on, we will see how many branches can be opened for women officers,” he added.
The IAF Chief-designate Air Marshal P V Naik said: “We have SSC for women pilots. Clearance by government to give permanent commission is just the beginning. It can be increased to other branches also.” (ANI)
