Freddie rules out Test return, but England ODI, 20-20 call-up still a done deal
January 29th, 2010 - 1:46 pm ICT by ANILondon, Jan.29 (ANI): Former Test all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has hit out at suggestions he would not be welcomed back by the England dressing room.
The 32-year-old all-rounder is currently recovering from knee surgery, having retired from playing the longest form of the game last summer.
Flintoff still intends to play one-day and Twenty20 cricket for his country, with the 2011 World Cup a long-term goal.
Freddie knows that he must convince coach Andy Flower and captain Andrew Strauss that he can fit into their scheme of things, reports The Sun.
“There’s a desire to play one-day internationals for England. It seems that everyone’s got an opinion whether I will or I won’t. However, if I’m fit and playing well I’ll get in England’s best side,” claimed Flintoff.
He, however, ruled out a return to Test cricket. He said: “There have been a few reports saying ‘a source close to me’ said that I missed Test cricket and the buzz of it.
“You don’t have to be close to me, I’d tell a complete stranger that. If you spoke to Ian Botham, he’d love to play Test Match cricket tomorrow. However, I’ve retired,” said Flintoff. (ANI)
