Francisco Sardinha takes oath as Lok Sabha member from Goa

New Delhi, Nov 15 (ANI): Francisco Sardinha, the newly-elected Member of Parliament from Mormugao (South Goa) parliamentary constituency took oath as member of the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
The oath was administered to him by Lok Sabha Secretary General P D T Achary.
The former Goa Assembly Speaker was elected to the Lower House on a Congress ticket after he defeated his close rival Wilfred Mesquita of the Bharatiya Janata Party in a recently held bypoll.
Sardinha on November 3 had defeated Mesquita by a margin of over 40,000 votes.
The seat fell vacant after the then Congress Member of Parliament Churchill Alemao resigned on May 8 to join state politics.
Sardinha is a president of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee. He is a senior Congress leader from south-Goa, who first became a Minister in a Congress Government which first came to power in 1980. (ANI)
