Four injured as Police fire teargas shells on stone-pelters in Srinagar
August 16th, 2010 - 9:51 pm ICT by ANISrinagar, Aug 16 (ANI): Four persons were injured here on Monday, after the Jammu and Kashmir police resorted to fire teargas shells to disperse a stone-pelting crowd during a protest.
The demonstrators were staging a protest over the killing of civilians during clashes with security forces.
Earlier, acting on the call given by Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, hundreds of people in Tengpora and Hyderpora areas of Srinagar, today came out to offer prayers on the road, in defiance of the curfew.
After performing their prayers, the people started raising slogans, which brought the security forces to the spot.
The protesters then started throwing stones at the security forces, an action that was retaliated by the police with firing of teargas shells into the crowd. (ANI)
