Floral fan presented to President Patil ahead of ‘Phool Walon ki Sair’
October 7th, 2009 - 7:57 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Oct. 7 (ANI): President Pratibha Dev Singh Patil was presented a floral and embellished fan by peace organization, Anjuman Sair-e-Gul Faroshan, ahead of the weeklong annual festival known of ‘Phool Walon ki Sair’.
“This is a big example of Hindu-Muslim unity. It sends out a message that there is no power in the world that can divide us. All the human beings are same. My wish is that everyone’s life becomes prosperous. That’s why to make our life better, it is necessary to increase brotherhood, communal harmony and love. That’s the message it gives,” said Pratibha Dev Singh Patil, Indian President.
Anjuman Sair-e-Gul Faroshan is an organisation working for communal harmony since 1960s.
Organised for more than 40 years, ‘Phool Walon ki Sair’ is a symbol of solidarity between Hindus and Muslims.
During the unique festival, floral chadars (sheets) are offered at the mausoleum of Sufi Saint Khwaja Bakhtiar Kaki in Mehrauli and floral fans are offered by both Muslims and Hindus at the temple ‘Yog Mayaji’ in Mehrauli.
Considered as an emblem of communal harmony, the ‘pankhas’ of ‘Phool Walon Ki Sair’, are presented to the President and Vice-President besides other dignitaries.
The historical festival will be marked with qawwalis (devotional singing) and cultural programmes by various troupes coming from different states.
Last year, the festival was a sombre affair because of a blast that occurred in the area. (ANI)
