Bijnor (Uttar Pradesh), Aug.1 (ANI): As different parts of the country are witnessing a heavy downpour during the ongoing Monsoon season, incessant rains have led to overflowing rivers at many places.
In Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district an overflowing River Kho has led to flood-like situation.
The water of the River Kho has entered nearby villages and disrupted general life.
Locals residents say that the floodwater has not only ruined their houses but has also eroded the cultivated lands.
Hundreds of acres of land with sugarcane crops have been destroyed by the floodwater.
Houses in nearby villages have collapsed due to the heavy flow of water and the villagers are battling to survive and save their goods.
“There are still floodwaters in the village and we are facing so many problems while cooking. It rains daily and we are not able to cook because of that. How do we cook? Everything gets wet in the rain water,” said Gayatri Devi, a resident of Navalpur village that has been suffering this situation for 10 days.
The local authorities, however, have claimed that the villages are safe and people will be shifted to safer places in case of an emergency situation.
“The river spreads from about 150-400 meters. In the construction done by the irrigation department, they had used boulders. The boulders ensure the safety of the region from floods. A warning was announced that the locals should be careful and watchful, and if the situation gets worse then they will be shifted to a safer place,” said Ramsewak Dwivedi, the Additional District Magistrate.
While a good monsoon is vital to India’s farm sector, heavy rains and runoff also leads to floods and outbreak of diseases. (ANI)
