Flood rescue training imparted to youth in Bihar
December 5th, 2009 - 2:56 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Patna, Dec 5 (ANI): Bihar Government is imparting training to youth in flood rescue operations, as the floods in the State claim several lives year after year.
28 out of 38 districts of Bihar are affected by floods every year. The flood claims lives due to the lack of divers and rescue workers.
Keeping this in mind, Bihar government has organised a disaster management training programme here where nearly 20 youth are being trained in swimming and diving.
“Police forces from Darbhanga, some rescue workers and volunteers those who have participated in this seven day training programme are being taught how to swim and dive in flood conditions. Those who already know swimming, they will be taught to dive and how to save drowning people,” said Devesh Chandar Thakur, Disaster Management Minister of Bihar State.
After the completion of the training, these youths would be sent to various districts of the state during the occurrence of any unforeseen events.
“This training is a nice initiative. As we know a majority of districts in Bihar are flood prone. This training programme would be a blessing to those districts. In future people will have less to fear and we will try to save them once we receive this training,” said Dharmendra Chaudhary, a trainee. (ANI)
