Flood cripples normal life in eleven Bihar districts
August 30th, 2009 - 2:57 pm ICT by ANIPatna, Aug 30 (ANI): Over 15 lakh people continue to reel under the deluge in Bihar’s 11 districts, as all rivers in the state are continue to be spate.
According to the Central Water Commission sources, there seems to be no let up in the overall flood situation in Bihar as the rivers Kosi, Mahananda, Bagmati, Kamala balan and Adhwara and their tributaries are flowing above the danger level at many places in the state.
Standing crops and houses worth several crores of rupees have been destroyed in the floods, state Disaster Management department sources added.
The State Water Resources Department said, “All embankments in Bihar are safe and flood-fighting continues at places where the rivers are putting pressure on the embankments.”
The Bihar Government has undertaken relief and rescue operations. The Centre has deployed over 1000 boats and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel to assist the efforts of the state government.
The government is distributing the relief packets containing foodgrains, candles, kerosene oil, polythene sheets, salt, milk powder and other essential materials to the affected people.(ANI)
