Five dead in Karnataka building collapse
January 27th, 2010 - 1:15 pm ICT by ANIBellary (Karnataka), Jan 27 (ANI): At least five persons were killed and several others injured, when a six-storeyed under construction building collapsed in Bellary district here on Tuesday night.
The incident took place around 8.30 p.m., when the workers were having dinner on the ground floor.
A boys’ hostel situated besides the building was also damaged when a portion of the building fell on the hostel.
A 22-year old student of the hostel was declared dead. There are reports that around three hostellers got buried inside the debris.
The rescue operation is on to remove the debris and look for more survivors.
Meanwhile, a National Disaster Management team from Pune is expected to visit Bellary today to assess the situation. (ANI)
